I first began advocating for the use of video with autism in 1991. This site presents some of my classroom experience with video and a project to encourage wider use of technology with autism

Information you will find here:

  • My personal experience using video and video modeling with autism
  • How others have used video modeling
  • Why I encourage an online collaboration to encourage its' use
    • Embedded links to information, resources and organizations
    • Sites I recommend for direct instruction, information and support

~ NOTE:  The panel webinars have passed.  We have moved past that point and have established a new website to provide readers with the information already established.  Tab 4 (Webinars) has been retained to serve as a model for other, project-based efforts.

Information You WILL NOT find HERE:

        • Advice from the researchers and commercial manufacturers
        • Comprehensive list of useful links
        • Support networks for parents, educators and administrators
        • Do-It-Yourself advice
        • Best Practice principles
        • Video Library
        • Help for school administrators

A virtual network of autism stakeholders supporting a project-based collaboration to encourage the integration of video modeling techniques with  spectrum education

      ~ About me ~

I am a retired, New York City special education teacher who loves teaching, is comfortable with computers, hates all the new learning curves involved with social networking, is fascinated by technology, has a soft heart for Spectrum kids and loves to put on a musical show.

I am a self-described techie, autism advocate and believer in the power of networking to improve educational outcomes.  I blog on technology for autism under my own name as well as Pinky The Paraprofessional.  I also have several projects for autism.  But video modeling is my pet.

This site connects the past 40 years of research with the decade during which the development of new technology may exceed our ability to find real-world applications for it.  I believe the use of video and computers has value and will continue to improve life for Spectrum families.  But, how should it be used?

      Who's in charge?
I want to talk to the Store Manager!  Oops!  There isn't anyone to go to.

      We gotta problem!

Oh, the last thing  you should know about me is that I believe there are some things best left to humans.  One of them is
      thinking

When presented with a problem, reasonable people will forge reasonable solutions.

I want to give them the opportunity.

Here are two excellent examples of how technology
is being used to connect parents with important information.

Healing Thresholds Autism Therapy, a free website providing comprehensive therapy fact sheets, daily updates of autism therapy research/news,and a global directory of autism-related therapists and services.

AutismList.com is a human-edited directory and article distribution site.  Submit a link to your favorite autism related website, advertise your own autism website, or submit an article.

Now, I am going to do something that all Internet gurus will say is a "No-No".  I am sendng you watch a fantastic TED Talks presentation, a choral composition of 2000 voices from across the globe.  It has nothing to do with video modeling but it perfectly illustrates the potential technology provides for bringing people together for a common goal.

I hope you enjoy this video and return to view the rest of my site.
      ~ NOTICE:
In order for me to continue with my online advocacy efforts, I need to monetize this web site.  I hope this decision will not disappoint my visitors.

The advertisement block installed below is my first feeble attempt to capitalize on potential revenue from Google ads.   I hope to only target advertisers that provide quality goods and services of potential value to my visitors. It may take me a few days to figure out what I am doing.

Don't be surprised if I decide to trash this whole advertising thing-y.

... which I did.  No more advertising.  Apologies to all those who proceeded you who were subjected to those tacky ads.
